Biodegradable packaging material


Materials that can be broken down by microorganisms (bacteria or fungi) into water and naturally occurring gases, such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4). See also the concept of ‘compostable packaging materials.’ Biodegradable materials do not necessarily have to be biobased, but in practice they often are.
