Mass Balance
A mass balance describes all inputs and outputs of a system or installation. The total input must correspond to the total output.
For packaging waste subjected to chemical recycling, the recycled amount must be accounted for, in reporting on legal recycling targets, based on a mass balance method.
This mass balance method must indicate which portion of the input of the chemical recycling process has been converted into mass of recycled plastic, and which portion has been converted into energy. For chemical recycling, the same measurement point applies as for mechanical recycling.
